Welcome to West Virginia Lightning Photography!

A Note from our Page Administrator:

Started in 2010, West Virginia Lightning Photography began merely as my hobby.  With nothing more then a small point and shoot camera I found myself sitting on my porch one day while a summer storm was coming in.  Entranced by the wonder of nature I found myself wondering how hard it could be to capture one of mother natures most beautiful and destructive forces.  I picked up my camera and starting snapping away.  To my amazement I captured not only one lightning strike that night but 7!  Those of which are displayed in this sites photo galleries.  Since that night I was hooked and have been chasing this beautiful light display ever since.

It wasn't until I started sending in my photographs to the local news that I found that I wasn't alone in this hobby.  After being contacted by local meteorologist Josh Fitzpatrick to do a segment on air of how to capture lightning I saw just how many people have tried to do the same thing, and how many people enjoyed seeing lightning.  I then started a Facebook page titled WV Lightning Photography to bring these storm chasers and lightning enthusiasts together to interact, swap stories, share photo's, and show off their best of the best.  It's there that my hobby grew into something more then just personal enjoyment.

Now into its third year, WV Lightning Photography has branched out from just sharing photo's to encompass charity events for storm victims, a free season competition amongst its fans for the title of Lightning Photographer of the Year,  instructional photo's, websites, and how to guides of lightning photography.  The page's fans have also grown outside of the state of West Virginia to include people from all over the United States and even as far away as Australia.  Every year bringing a new chapter to both its fans and photography success.

So with that I would like to welcome you to West Virginia Lightning Photography's website and feel free to look around at all we have to offer.  Don't forget to become a fan on our Facebook Page for storm reports, photo's, and more!  You may just be this years photographer of the year!

Good Luck and Happy Hunting,
